SMASH & GRAB : Chocolate Orange

I saw this fun technique for cutting up clementines or satsumas on the internet the other day, and I just had to have a go!
Once I had the prepared clementine laid out in front of me, it was just asking to have chocolate arranged in the spaces between the segments...and my version of a chocolate orange was born!

***

This is a lovely snack, and I think it would also make a really pretty little dish to serve at the end of a meal as it has the bitter/sweetness of the chocolate and refreshing palate-cleansing action of the orange.

***

One of the best things a chocoholic can hear is that dark chocolate contains iron...and that the body absorbs it so much better with some Vitamin C....so a little chocolate eaten with a clementine is actually good for you!

This little snack is 1pp/approx.85kcal. It's really delicious and uplifting and well worth the effort!
(It's actually very easy).
For each clementine or satsuma, you will need 8g plain chocolate.

Start by 'scoring' or cutting through the peel (but not into the segments) around one end of the fruit.

Gently pull off and discard the peel leaving the fruit intact.

Repeat on the other end of the fruit. You should be left with an even strip of peel attached. Score a line between 2 of the segments.

Open out the fruit and gently separate the segments. Leave them attached to the peel.

The strip of fruit will now sit beautifully flat on a plate.

Weigh an 8g chunk of dark chocolate and cut it into rough pieces. Pop a piece of chocolate between each segment.

A finished Slice-of-Slim chocolate orange!

TIP

If you are feeling a little bonkers like I was, you could turn it from a sophisticated little snack into a Chocolate-Orange Caterpillar!

Yummy fun.
