FOOD FOR THOUGHT : A Bug in the System

I don't know what your winter has been like, but my family and I have struggled through some really nasty viruses these past few months. A couple of weeks ago, I had a raging throat combined with a bad back (an old war wound), which was not a great combination!

***

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but I thought it was worth sharing my experience with you as I had a similar one with a dental problem a few years ago...
Even though I stuck to my propoint allowance religiously and tracked everything whilst unwell, I gained around 3lbs in weight during that week. I realised that I had been pretty inactive due to being in pain, and my every-day activity was kept to a minimum, along with a disturbed sleep pattern. This is what contributed to the weight gain.
The other problem is that some of the painkillers I was taking, such as co-codamol, can make you very constipated.

I'm amazed to learn how dynamically these weight gains can happen. Everything seems so finely tuned. With hindsight, as I'm on maintenance points, I probably should have reduced my dailies by 2 or 3 pp's as soon as I knew I was unwell. If I had nowhere to go on the dailies and on 26pp (the minimum for a female), I would probably reduce my weeklies a little whilst so inactive.
(When I had my dental problem, my WW leader at the time advised me to do this but I had forgotten).
So....alongside feeling rough, I had a significant weight gain to contend with.

I have to say, (again only from my experience), that this gain came off as quickly as it went on and by the following week, I was at my preferred weight again.

So the lesson learnt?
If you're unwell and inactive, try reducing your propoints by 2 or 3 per day, or accept that you will have a gain of a few pounds, but that it will come off again fairly rapidly once you're feeling better.

Bring on Springtime!

I'm one of those people that gets ill all the time as well!! I've learnt to accept my gains so far but may have to try dropping a couple of propoints and see how it goes :)
