A small hand whisk is a really essential kitchen tool. I use mine regularly for making pancake batters, salad dressings, omelettes, etc.
I have had this one for years- I particularly like the dense spiral end on it. It seems to be brilliantly efficient, making hand-whisking fast and a complete doddle, without involving too much elbow grease.

This one was from the original Nigella range. I've had a quick look online and I can't find the exact one any more, but I'm sure that there are some with this type of spring-ended whisk on the market, and that is what I would recommend.
